How To Draw A Yoga Stick Figure: The Ivan Brunetti Method
Greetings, my lovely Yogis, Yoginis, and Yoga teachers. I’m George Watts, a BWY yoga teacher and creator of the Online Yoga Lesson Planner.
Shhhh, don’t tell anyone this…
I’m a prolific Doodler.
Until now, I’ve kept most of my Yoga Teacher Doodles locked away in my Doodle Diary. Doodling has been my secret hobby for years.
But today I had this thought…
“Maybe, just maybe my fellow Yoga teachers, especially new ones, might like to peer into a Yoga Teacher’s diary.”
I can think of no better way to pry into the mind of a Yoga Teacher than to flip through their diary, especially if that diary is full of doodles.
Here is a doodle from my “yoga teacher’s diary”…
The Doodle From George’s Yoga Teacher Diary
In the next section, I cover the steps in a video.
How To Draw AYoga Stick Figure The Ivan Brunetti Way: Video Guide
Here are the 4 steps from the doodle and video…
Step 1: Basic Shapes
Draw two basic shapes (head and body).
Step 2: Limbs & Features
Add simple limbs and features.
Step 3: Embellish
Add details such as shirt pattern, birthmark, etc.
Step 4: Colour
Add colour (optional, but highly fun!).
You’ll notice that I evolved the stick figure in step four was different to the ones in steps 2 and 3. That’s called “changing your mind” which is what doodling is all about. When doodling, just let your hand take you where it wants to go.
Don’t be too precious about your drawings.
In fact, I never call my doodles “drawings” because that will get my subconscious to be overly precious about drawing someone good.
Next is a little bonus showing how to draw faces like Quentin Blake (famous cartoonist) including eyes, noses, mouths, and hair. Picking one of Quentin’s faces when doodling your yoga stick figures brings them to life.

Next up, is my conclusion.
George’s Conclusion
In conclusion, my fellow yogis, the trick in life is to find ways to not take life too seriously, and that’s doubly true when it comes to doodling in your “Yoga Teacher Diary”.
I highly recommend that you keep a notebook that is for all things “Yoga Teaching”. I recommend abandoning the “text writing” part of the brain and allowing the “doodling” part to escape and cause mayhem on paper.
And oh yes, I almost forgot…
My free Yoga Pose Directory has over 3000 yoga poses. So, if you want to practice your stick figure drawing, it’s a great place to go because each of the poses has a stick figure image.
And if you like Yoga Stick Figures, I have a hunch you’ll like my Yoga Stick Figure Kit. It is the largest collection of premium quality, royalty-free yoga stick figures on the web. Includes 1000+ of my famous “blue” yoga stick figures (that I use within the Online Yoga Lesson Planner).
