Do not hold breath. <\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>How To Teach Root Lock Mula Bandha<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<p><span title=\"Yoga Lesson Planning\"><br class=' sb-br' \/> <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Step 1<\/span><br \/>\nTeach the Sanskrit<\/h3>\n<p><br class=' sb-br' \/><\/p>\n<p>Mula = Root<br \/>\nMula Bandha = Root Lock<br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000;\">Bandha = Bond<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Bandha = term used to describe body locks in Hatha Yoga<\/span><\/p>\n<p><br class=' sb-br' \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Step 2<\/span><br \/>\nTeach the location<\/h3>\n<p><br class=' sb-br' \/><\/p>\n<p>The Mula bandha is located at the tip of the spine.<\/p>\n<p><br class=' sb-br' \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Step 3<\/span><br \/>\nTeach the hidden meaning<\/h3>\n<p><br class=' sb-br' \/><\/p>\n<p>The Muladhara Chakra represents the stage of consciousness where the basic (root) survival need is the dominant force.<\/p>\n<p>Mula refers to the root of all action, and the root of any action is thought.<\/p>\n<p>As the student begins to refine their thoughts, locking the intentions behind their actions, the actions become refined. In yoga practice, the student is locking body and mind in a positive way because it directs our thoughts, emotions, and impulses into the orderly channels of right action. So, the simple act of engaging your Mula Bandha during a yoga practice allows the very best of &#8220;you&#8221; to shine through.<\/p>\n<p>Mula Banda cuts the energetic knot that causes resistance to change.<\/p>\n<p><br class=' sb-br' \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Step 4\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nTeach the benefits<\/h3>\n<p><br class=' sb-br' \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Contains and channels the energy associated with the root chakra.<\/li>\n<li>Stimulates pelvic nerves, genital system, endocrine system, and excretory system<\/li>\n<li>Relieves constipation and depression<\/li>\n<li>Stabilizes the pelvis<\/li>\n<li>Creates a safe environment for spinal movement<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><br class=' sb-br' \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Step 5<\/span><br \/>\nTeach it in one sentence<\/h3>\n<p><br class=' sb-br' \/><\/p>\n<p>You could easily over complicate the directions for your students, and that&#8217;s exactly what most yoga teachers will do in order to sound knowledgeable. \u00a0However, get your ego out of the way and explain how to activate the Mula Bandha in one sentence like this:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16pt;\">&#8220;<em>Imagine you&#8217;re in the middle of a traffic jam on the way to the airport, and you <strong>desperately need a pee<\/strong><\/em>.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>That&#8217;s it!<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s all you need to say.<\/p>\n<p>Though if you want to complicate it, you could say:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16pt;\">&#8220;<em>If you&#8217;re a male, contract the area between anus and testes.\u00a0<\/em><em>And if you&#8217;re a woman, contract muscles at the bottom of the pelvic floor<\/em>.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><br class=' sb-br' \/><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Step 6<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Teach the extended hold<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><br class=' sb-br' \/><\/p>\n<p>Explain to your students that the aim is to hold their Mula Bandha through the entire yoga practice.<\/p>\n<p>Yep, even if it&#8217;s a 120-minute class.<\/p>\n<p>The main reason for the &#8220;hold&#8221; is because the lock, locks in your energy which allows all that wondrous energy to flow up, not down and out. If your energy is forced to flow up and stay circulating within you, it will grow and grow and grow and grow.
